What do you think of the peasantmaxxed neet strategy?
4,000sqft is considered a reasonable amount of land required to produce 100% of ones dietary needs while also maintaining or improving soil without external inputs. Obviously this required minimum area is smaller if willing to use external inputs. We're talking maybe 100 hours per year to provide food and maybe a little spending money from selling surplus. That's less time than what many wagies will put in over a two week period.
The initial cost may be a little high in both time and money. Probably going to be at least $50k to get a few acres and a house in America. Propane is going to be $2-5k. Well $1-100k. Batteries $5-10k and expected lifespan of 20 years. Solar panels $2-6k with lifespan of 30+ years. Inverter $1-5k and maybe 10 year lifespan. Septic tanks are not worth the cost or government oversight. A lagoon does not require testing or permits and is much easier to install by yourself. You'd need a good set of tools, glass jars not the shitty screw on plastic lined lid kind(Mason, Ball) but superior glass jar glass lid silicone gasket steel clamps(Weck is one example).
Chopping wood sucks, so use coppiced woodlot for fuel needs. These only need to be cut to length, not split.
Other ongoing costs would be internet unless you can work out a deal with a fellow anon to hook you up with a few tb of anime and manga to set up your media server. Then again once a year for the last year's Japan slop. Chances are he's already archiving, so it's only a matter giving you a copy of his data. Property tax should be under $1k a year if you have correctly set the property up as homestead of agricultural. Side by sides are street legal in some counties, this is way better than a truck or van with expensive insurance. That's sufficient to drive into town for the hardware store or to sell your surplus.
