That isn't a "trend" or "canceling", that's good practice for both genders to avoid getting stood up. You should always confirm plans with literally anyone, dating or otherwise.

This is true, however. I'd say it feels more like applying for jobs than interviewing though as in my experience with both, if we get to the point of meeting in person then I'm pretty much set to get the job. The only hard part is getting to that point past the 5000 other applicants in line for every position.

I work in STEM in a 2nd world country and while I'm drowning in cash as a volcel, my family man coworkers are living paycheck-to-paycheck and taking further loans to go on vacation. Having a wife, a child, a mortgage, a car and maintaining all of that stuff is insanely expensive and this is the main reason most people are not having kids anymore. Inflation-adjusted wages have not gone up in most places since the 70s and 80s.
There's also an increasing chunk (me included) who just don't like kids and don't want anything to do with them.

Confirming a date beforehand is pretty fucking normal and has nothing to do with women "not being adults enough" to remember the time of the date. They know the time and place, but they're asking for confirmation on the day of before they start getting ready, put effort into their appearance, get into uncomfortable but cute clothes FOR YOU. I've never been on a date where the man didn't message me the day of and say things like "can't wait to see you tonight" or text me to tell me he was feeling nervous about meeting, or if he is from out of town he'd text me same day to confirm the address. It's really that simple. Women don't want to put effort into their appearance and then be stood up. Believe it or not women also get nervous too before dates and sometimes getting ready can be a two hour endeavor, wether it's wanting your makeup to be perfect or having trouble with your hair or picking out you clothes. On dates, especially first dates, women want to look pretty for YOU and that takes time and effort and it's stressful.
