Cats are hunter/prey animals. Meaning they hunt smaller things but other things hunt them. Their salavia is a natural deodorizer so they can mask their scent. Last thing you need is to attract a larger predator like a fox because you still have the smell of blood on you.

I've noticed this, the smell will stick on my hand all day unless I wash it with soap and water.
Please always say that their dog doesn't smell, or the dog needs a bath. but every dog I've petted even directly after it was bathed made my hand stink.
