can you explain the appeal of vtubers? I genuinely don't understand it, is it literally just the anime girl? every clip I've seen of them seemed super obnoxious, I can't imagine watching a stream with their annoying high-pitched voice and screaming

I like VTubers but I've only ever spent money on memberships.

You seriously gotta go outside and make some friends Op. I recommend looking online for things that you enjoy doing, Like biking, hiking, gardening, wood working , What ever you enjoy doing as a hobby there's clubs for adults who enjoy the same things. Go to one of these clubs enjoy doing what you like and just be you. Bet you unless your really strange and weird some one comes up and strikes a conversation with you and over time you become friends.. Vtubers are fine to pass the time when your board or theres crap on tv.. but don't wast your money on them.
