It's how they are perceived based upon how they behave online actually. They are a hyper minority of the population, and many people's only exposure to them is people online. When the only exposure to trans people most people get are loud self-absorbed sociopaths who think; anyone who shows them kindness is a chaser, other people's gender identities are invalid because they are eggs, a trans person suffering is a tragedy but other people suffering can pound sand, other people should immediately know your gender identity, history and culture need to purge historic or current things that bring discomfort, its okay to undermine internet infrastructure and civil rights to stop websites that don't like you, any hobby they partake in has to be making it about themselves and how trans they are, and it's alright to swat children and seniors who have no idea what any of this trans stuff even is because they misgendered you. Then yes, people will hate them because those loud obnoxious people become their spokespeople.
