..any of you who became a NEET (either by choice or not) eventually got out of NEETdom? I've been a NEET for over 2 years now and a part of me wants to work and/or go to school again because I feel that I can do more in life. I would find a job that I'd hopefully enjoy, preferably some sort of contract work so I can have months off to do shit and travel. I've also thought about going into finance because apparently it's a good career path for ppl on the spectrum. I think it would also be neat to work on a harbour ship.

I do appreciate some things about being a NEET but I feel that ppl in general were not ment to just sit around and just do nothing and play vidya and shitpost everyday for their whole lives. I can just try out something new and if I don't like it or get fired then whatever I can always try again or go back to being a NEET.

Yes I know society in general is rigged and the ruling elite class is here to stay and want more but I still feel that there is more to life than just this.

Anyone got out of being a NEET? Are you better for it or do you regret it?

I was a NEET for basically half my life, then I joined the military (Navy) a year ago. It was basically the panic button because I had fucked up too many previous opportunities and I didn't want to be a leech on my family anymore.

Ty.
Yeah I feel that I don't have much to lose at this point. No family, gf or pets and I am 36 years old. Already a loser at this point so may as well try something new.

Good on you for taking that leap. Definitely hear you on the being a leech part.

Eh.
I am still in schooling/training so I haven't gotten to the actual "job" on a ship yet (school can take a long time in the Navy based on your rate/job, usually if you have a high ASVAB score). It's a stable paycheck and healthcare, with almost zero essential expenses, and it did force me to organize my life. But I am basically trapped in it. There are ways I could get out (e.g. mental health) but it would mean losing my bonus money and all my benefits, and I'd be back at square one. It's honestly a pretty easy lifestyle, though it can be tedious at times (the military can be really inefficient for no good reason). Boot camp is more of a mental game, it's hard to actually fail, if you don't pass the physical assessment they will just keep holding you back until you do. The training afterwards is easy if you put in 10% effort.
I will say that if you were to go into the military I'd definitely go for Air Force or Navy, especially if you're not retarded. Less grunt work. Air Force is stricter with health issues though, Navy has more waivers.
If you are at absolute rock bottom and have no options, you can go for it, but if you have a feasible civilian career path, stick with that.
Keep in mind that recruiters are allowed to lie to you, so research everything on your own. In particular look up what you'd actually be doing for your rate/job before picking it. There are some rates that are only shore duty and almost never go on a ship, which some people may prefer. Make sure you get the bonus you're supposed to, and if you have taken college courses make sure they're in the system because you get to rank up right away.
Geopolitically it is kind of a scary time right now, I know some people who are being sent to the Nimitz (carrier at the Persian Gulf right in the middle of the Israel vs Iran conflict). It's cooled off in recent days but could flair up again. The vast majority of current Navy sailors have never seen combat but that could change at any time.
