I went to an anime con with some friends, and I don't see why anyone would ever go alone, maybe if you're a gigachad but even then you have way easier ways to get laid with more attractive women. Many anime conventions have after-hours bars and club events, but I imagine 70% of the male convention attendees think, 'I'm totally going to find a cute girl and chat her up, if I don't score, I'll at least get her Discord username.' Anyway, even if the odds of finding your gf at an anime convention are low, you can still have fun ogling cosplayers.

I don't think I would ever go to a convention, even if they weren't all amalgamated into "nerd culture" events and filled to the brim with normalfags.
Think about it-- anyone at a con who isn't a normalfag is probably some fat, unwashed loser. Men and women alike. That's not to mention the amount of troons that infest the places.
Even if you met a "nice" girl there, she would likely be insufferable to talk with about anything, fat and ugly, and either an autistic-type "lolrandumb" person or a complete tumblrina. And nowadays, probably covered in tattoos.

People online also mention the smell of a con, if there's really enough unhygienic people to have their stench fill the air of a huge convention center, why the fuck would I want to be there?

What do people even do at cons anyway? If there's no one worth socializing with, and you aren't there to show off a cosplay, aren't you just walking a glorified flea market where vendors sell you the same shounen shirts you get at Hot Topic for outrageous prices? Panels with... Dub actors? Screenings.... Of dubbed anime or even if it's subbed, you have to watch it with a bunch of cringe losers?
