I'm guessing you haven't been around people with bpd or ptsd or the like. Having an injured psyche makes coping difficult to impossible, since your psyche is what you use to cope in the first place. Try doing some research on mental illness. Even if you have low emotional empathy (which I'm guessing you do, based on your posts), it's pretty easy to understand on a cognitive level that something is wrong with these people that can't be solved just by talking yourself out of it.

Friendship and romance are human necessities. There's a reason our health (both physical and mental) rapidly deteriorates with out them. Being lonely has a worse effect on mortality than being obese does.

Yes. It causes both physical and mental illness. I've been friendless my entire life, and because of that, I developed chronic depression and illness in my early teens. I'm constantly depressed and in pain, which only becomes a compounding issue. Add not being able to sleep on top of that, and the last 20+ years of my life have been nothing but misery.

Isolation has been proven to cause all of the following:

- Less pleasure from social stimulation
- Impaired stress regulation, learning capability, memory, spatial awareness, and attention span
- Increased inflammatory response, resulting in physical pain and increased risk of inflammatory diseases
- Sleep deprivation
- Decreases life expectancy by a massive 15 years
