There are two good ways to lose weight:
1) Fasting, short and intense and the mind stuff makes you reevaluate your thoughts on food (in a good way). Reveals any hang ups you have like snacking as a habit of boredom, snacking as a habit of stress, and other such stuff.
2) Keeping input relatively the same, maybe minor decrease like cutting out beer / soda, but increasing your output i.e. exercise. This really isn't tenable long term without a dedication to change your lifestyle. But it increases muscle / general fitness and is good.
Generally you want to do the first to get the bulk off, then the second to fine tune. Doing just the second, or some bastardization of the second, will fuck with you.
You can lose like 10 lbs a month if you do it right.

Eating ANY AMOUNT gets your body's digestion system going and that causes your body to get out of any sort of fasting window it's in no matter how many calories it is.
Now you're just hungry all day and it sucks.
Do not eat AT ALL during the times you're not eating, and then eat all the calories you want/need during the one meal. After a few days you don't be hungry anymore outside of meal time.
