When was the last time you used a vending machine? Probably the 2000s for me.
There are generally cheaper options nearby so I don't see the point. The items should be cheaper than a store actually, because there's no cashier, so I don't want to reward the owner for that.

Yeah, same era. Seems even more over-priced than the story already is.
Also, you're fucked over if there's a malfunction.

I did find one case for them but it's pretty exploitative. I started working at a warehouse and I noticed people have used the vending machine quite a bit. Even I was tempted to use it because the labor causes hunger and the break is too short to go anywhere. Nowadays you just tap your phone to pay so you don't need cash, making it really easy. But ideally you'd just bring food with you to avoid this "convenience" fee.

Actually, I vaguely remember using a coffee machine in the mid-10s, as it was the only/quickest way to get a drink in the area. It became a ritual while I was there. It took card payments. That is, if coffee machines count as vending machines.

Someone needs to come out and restock the machine, do basic maintenance and empty the coin container. Often vending machine operators need to rent the space where the machine is located. Machines require insurance, this includes insurance to cover any damage to the machine but also public liability insurance in case someone wants to sue the operator if they receive an injury from a machine.

It's hard to believe it's more expensive to run than an actual store which require all those things anyway.

last summer I used one at the pool, a dollar for a bag of chips is like 300% more than if you buy bulk.
>The weekly earnings of a vending machine can vary significantly depending on factors like location, product selection, and foot traffic. On average, a vending machine generates between $5 and $100 per week, with some well-placed machines earning up to $600 per week.

Lern 2 wrench it yourself or replace the components, insurance is a scam, unless you putting vending machine in the ghetto where crackheads will damage them. If that's th case just put them in a place with a cctv.

We have some at my company's office but I haven't been there in months. Usually just grab a Dr. Pepper to get me through whatever meeting I'm there for.

I hear the competition is fierce and if there is a spot, it's taken already. At least with ATMs, it's like cartels fighting over turf and they'll threaten newcomers.

It's like convenience store competition, and hence I would put my vending machines in secluded stretches of walk ways to get people hydrated with their loose shekels. Like the canal near my home doesn't have any vending machine, but the park does. So I would rent a spot off the canal because I feel that people with money in their pockets who are thirsty would quench their thirst for a 2 dollar 12 fluid ounce can of energy drinks.
https://www.amazon.com/Red-Bull-Energy-Drink-Sugarfree/dp/B001E14104/ref=zg_bs_g_16318341_d_sccl_9/142-9413664-4803363
Redbull cost roughly 1.50 a can, so you charge it for 2.50, and make 24 dollars off a single case.
https://www.walmart.com/ip/Red-Bull-Energy-Drink-114mg-Caffeine-12-fl-oz-Pack-of-4-Cans/10316267
Walmart sells them at a cheaper price if you buy the 12 pack conferrable to the 24 pack.

But that's nice you could resale items with just a 80%-200% markup, and if you are a nigga like me, you would use gibs to pay for everything so it's all profit.
