Having kids fucking sucks. As soon as society moves past brutal agrarianism birth rates drop. It's not feminism, Russia has shit birthrates too. It's not over population, the US has declining birth rates despite low density in most areas, it's not urbanization since rural areas also see lowered birth rates. It's literally just that we're too rich to want to bother with procreation. Every excuse about the economy falls flat, we're richer today than we were 100 years ago and yet the birthday is massively lower. Revealed versus stated preferences.
