Losing your hair a sign of aging though. The reason people cling to to their hair is because it's a youthful trait. They're scared of aging because they're scared of dying and losing your hair is a big indicator of the fact that you're aging.
And that is why "it's over". Because you're aging. It's not that you've got bad genes. It's that you're dying.

Hair represents something, that thing is youth. Losing your hair is losing your youth. Losing your innocence, purity, etc, having it taken away by the universe by force.

If there was a pill that could cure balding instantly with no side effects even the copers would take it. Hair is life.
