My parents never allowed me to attend school and then tried to pull that "you're 18 now. Get a job and move out." BS.

Same but I have been sheltered even before I got my Wii at 10 or so. My mom was simply too paranoid about me being kidnapped by the mother of a school friend, even if said mother was close to where we lived.

My mom once said to me she thought I'd be a kid forever.
I think that explains a lot and why I'm here now, I should've died.

I've said this multiple times on this site but I stick by this sort of rule-set I devised myself
>0 - 17 years old
anything goes; you have no control over it, all determined by your parents/guardian, your surroundings, your environment, etc. - whatever problems you have at this age, it's the fault of your parents
>18 - 36
it's all up to you now; the past doesn't matter anymore, it may have shaped you or broke you but it's time to grow, its time to learn to rebuild yourself, destroy yourself, and rebuild yourself again and again and again - whatever problems you have at this stage, you're the only one who can fix it; ball's entirely in your court, depends on you if wanna take the shot or not

for me it was
>we'll take care of X (ie not teach you anything) since you are a child
>why can't you do everything on your own?

I guess some parents don't. My parents gradually forced me to make my own decisions and also I learned from other older kids how to navigate getting older.

Most parents had no idea what they were doing and until the last 30 years it was very limited the damage they could do. A kid in say 1950s - 1980s wasn't going to have the same exposures a kid in say 1990- 2000 was going to have. Video games were rudimentary and very expensive even when compared to now, most schools and programs didn't have the means to watch over the kids and with both parents working "latch key kids" was a thing, your only means to avoid people was books at best, with a little bit of TV in the day and no means to watch whatever you want, when ever you want. So these people that grew up in that became parents and got slammed with very fast moving tech to where video games were cheap and abundant, streaming made watching tv and movies went ever you want a breeze and the Internet's social media created a world where fear grabbed kids could just avoid real people for years on end.

I can't blame or be mad at most of them because they had no clue what was going on and even now I doubt they can understand it.
