anyone know if there is a keyboard shortcut to select a file so i dont have to take my hands off the keyboard to grab my mouse to select a file

alternatively, become a full Linux chad and get one of those web browsers that use vi keys/shortcuts instead of the mouse.

Tab and arrow keys. You can also press the first letter of the file name and it should select it
