>>82140993 (OP)1. Needing to learn Mandarin (if you're not willing to do this, just forget about it. It's basically impossible to do anything in China without knowing it, since nobody actually knows english)
2. Authoritarian hellscape with no freedom of speech. You'll be fine if you just don't talk about politics, but if you're a person who likes voicing his opinions, don't go there.
3. Impossible to get citizenship. I think this is the worst aspect of China, for foreign expats at least. They will NEVER give you citizenship even if you live there for 50 years, speak fluent Mandarin, and completely assimilate into society. They only give foreigners citizenship if you are ethnically Chinese. EVEN if you were born there, you still will never get it.
4) Pollution
5) Unstable infrastructure. Anything can break anytime, because of lack of building regulations and restriction. Corruption and bribery also makes things less than adequately maintained.
6) Basically a worse version of Taiwan
PROS:
1) You can live a fully modern lifestyle in some of their cities, which rival some American ones
2) Technologically very advanced
3) Very tasty food
4) People are less racist than Japan or Korea (but still a bit racist). Foreigners are looked more fondly there
5) Crime is WAY lower than America in almost every aspect. I would walk alone at night in Beijing but not Los Angeles
6) Cool asf culture (if you ignore communism)
