I don't think there are many people around these days who give a shit about Homestuck. It's biggest claim to fame these days is that it's where Toby Fox got his start. Not trying to be demeaning, I'm sure it meant a lot to people back in the day, but it's the truth.

Robot bf and I have started reading/rereading Homestuck together (I stopped before it was finished, he's never read it before) in preparation for this. It has been a lot of fun! We take turns reading; sometimes he'll do all dialogue and narration, sometime I'll do all, sometimes we'll have one person do all the dialogue and the other be the narrator... It's really cute seeing his headcanon voices for each character emerge as they're introduced by pesterlog and such. It's really sweet of him to embark on such a feat with me. I feel very seen and understood, the context it's giving him to how much the comic and peak Tumblr culture shaped my adolescence. And even if the animation ends up sucking, we can both poo-poo it together and the "anime onlys" that its release will breed. Speaking of breeding, it's good that this read-through will give him the knowledge to add some Homestuck characters to our roleplay repertoire. Wins all around.

This is the best summary I can give: It's extremely meta, autistic webcomic originally based on old school adventure games where the audience could tell the protagonists what to do, with special moments getting videos or interactive minigames. Eventually the audience giving the prompts was phased out but the format remained and the author was TERMINALLY online. Which led to the fanbase only growing as a result as a result. For several years it'd update 2-3 times on average, sometimes with MASSIVE stream on consciousness but actually funny chatlogs, and a lot of reverse foreshadowing done to create a good story. Eventually the audience became too huge though with some of the worst people on the internet and the author went (and still is) completely insane.
Some parts are good though but you really had to be there.

Homestuck is weird because despite hearing it mentioned online for years I know almost nothing about it.
All I know is
1. It's some kind of webcomic thing (I think).
2. Some of the character designs from seeing images people post.
It's like people deliberately avoid talking about the actual plot (if there is one idk) or anything specific.
It's all very weird and off-putting for me and one of the reasons I avoided ever looking at it.

The problem is actually trying to summarize the plot can be a massive spoiler. You can say it's about 4 friends playing a minecraft-esque video game I guess while the Earth is being destroyed to create a new one but even that much is kind of a spoiler
