What kind of person do you have to be to be popular on discord? I never understood how people make friends there. I tried having my own server for a while, but it only attracted underage teenagers I had to keep banning, nothing interesting ever happened there, sometimes an edgy faggot would post gore but that was about it. I never understood how people are okay with the social dynamics of discord.

you have to be oversocialized and good at being performative
e.g. regularly saying hi and interacting with people even if you share nothing in common and they dont really like you
it still signals to others youre "cool"
feigning concern for any kind of vent or blogpost (no matter how mundane), to show youre really kind and caring

Discord with randoms is pointless but the only way for you to not interact with randoms forever is to talk to the same randoms for months/years until they stop being randoms (and then they invite you into the good servers)

If you're already in it, it's fine, but not really worth the investment unless you have literally no one else to talk to
I've joined probably 500+ servers over the years looking for good groups, I've only wound up being a regular in 5
