There is something people are not taught which is a glaring fault of parents and society: if someone is mean or disrespectful it means they don't like you. If they don't like you and they are mean you then you should not care about what they want or think. This is not related to self esteem. If someone is treating you like dirt, i.e. being mean or disrespectful, then they are not confused or expressing anything else. They do not like you or care about you. Because they do not like you or care about you, their opinion and behavior should not effect your morale. Demoralization should only occur at the end of efforts to indicate to yourself pursuing another course of action. If people don't care about you, then dont hope they will later or make a determination on your value independant of anything else.
