I bought (got my mom to buy me) every game from FRLG to B2W2, was absolutely hooked. Once I learned X/Y and ORAS would be on the new 3DS, I didn't bother buying one. And I had gotten into PC gaming in 2012, so I was playing my DS less and less.
I like believing in my headcanon that pokemon died with the DS and every game since has been some kind of unofficial spin-off series. Pokemon without sprites is hard for me to accept
