Personally, I define intelligence as the pace at which you can learn & adapt. The faster you learn a new subject, the more intelligent you are.

I'm really good at learning, conceptualizing and understanding new things (I do fairly well in medschool),but I'm really shit at math. What does that make me?

Maybe he spent more time learning & memorizing the equations, or perhaps he is naturally just a faster learner.

Most people has a subject that they are interested in & subjects they are not. Boredom kills learning, I'd say you are smart, yet lack any aspiration to learn math.

Your capacity of understanding is a better indicator of intelligence than speed alone.
I'd much rather take longer to get into a subject if it means I will have a more nuanced, deeper understanding of it by the end.
This isn't particularly useful in our society though, since it rewards speed more than depth, which is also the reason why IQ tests are good at predicting socio-economic success.

There's multiple definitions for intelligence. Each of them is important, but some are better than others, and a lot of them are linked. What's best is if someone can hit high in multiple markers. For example though
>memorization
>Cognition speed
>adaptability
>innovative capacity
>social intelligence
>conceptualization and understanding
>intuition
>analysis

And there are more but that's what I have off the top of my head

Speed is one thing but it's also the ceiling and ways that you understand things and how they relate to other concepts.

Having lots of knowledge and being able to recall it is what makes someone intelligent whether they're fast or slow at learning. The more complex the more impressive
