hate being the second born. my parents couldn't decide if/when they wanted children so we all have fucked up age gaps and completely different/isolated experiences. my older brother got almost 10 years of uninterrupted time with two adults in their prime. I had to miss out on all kinds of exposure only to get dragged along to his piano recitals, language tutoring, swimming meets, boating lessons, etc. until he left for college. then my parents, having burnt themselves out, decided to birth four more kids all in quick succession so I had to essentially grow up being the third parent while also being constantly compared to a kid who wanted for nothing.
he got a trust fund and our parents paid for his college (and his frat!) while he majored in a useless degree. my dad gave his beater car to the neighbor after i got my license, so now I'm almost 22 and haven't touched a car in six years.
now my brother will almost certainly be replaced by AI (six figure email job) and he's trying to pivot into influencing with limited success. I had to earn scholarships, take out loans, go to a school near my aging parents to help take care of them and the kids, and live in section 8 housing to make room for my kid siblings, all while balancing the demands of a STEM degree, research, multiple jobs, etc.
