God chose them to be an example, which they sucked at frankly but not as much as the rest of the ancient world. The old testament constantly harps about treating gentiles well in your land anyways. >>82197731Even a lot of Jewish scholars say the "promised land" is "The World to Come". Which Christians talk a lot about as well. It's why many Jews view Zionism as a perversion of Jewish thought. This notion of a new creation/New Jerusalem is also in Isaiah and I think it's discussed a lot in the Midrashim if you want Jewish thought about it.
