Why so many people claim that they feel nostalgic about the old internet, forums, geocities etc but never about blogs? Blogs are the last, remaining form of decentralized internet: no stupid internet trends, no annoying captchas, no heavy censorship, no cancel culture mobs, no bots spamfest etc. At least if you don't use pro-censorship blog hosters like Google's blogger and WordPress. And if some of these "old internet nostalgiacs" have a blog it's either tumblr or neocities, with both of them being cancerous.

i really didn't like blogs. before blogs were just personal websites: they could have essays, articles, whatever. blogs tended to skew towards me-me-me LiveJournal shit.

also that thing where every other sentence contained a link. why? i'm trying to read YOUR page, not go somewhere else for context multiple times every paragraph.

plus with 'pingbacks' and whatever else it was like the same excesses we have with social media. yes there have always been webrings, hit counters, all that, but bloggers really cared (and displayed) when other bloggers in the blogosphere reblogged their blog. is it not more important the content ITSELF is good, stands on its own...?

Because people here hate reading more than a few sentences at a time

making a blog about anything in today's world is a sure fire way to have some sloptuber find your posts and start making videos "exposing" you. mutasaar and nognigdork will spawn in and start a 85 iq hate campaign against you and ruin your life. you are not allowed to have thoughts anymore, not allowed to say anything that isn't extremely tame and pedestrian.

Ye they have no problem listening to 10 hours video essays about old cartoon, reading longass forums threads of stupid internet dramas, useless trivia Wikis for media they don't even consume...

as much as "the internet never forgets" it does bother me that a lot of old posts/pages get a second wind like this.

my old cringy forum posts are still out there, i don't give a shit. they're published, public, i knew that at the time. but damn, so many former teenagers are about to be "re-exposed" by the YouTube generation.

Slobtubers don't even know or care about the existence of blogs (with few, rare exceptions like neonazi larpers lolcows). They only care about shit people post at social media.

One more reason I'm not fan of forums anymore Meanwhile with blogs you can easily delete them whole (like I did with my old tumblr blogs) or delete old blog entries of yours.

nah i think they see the "old internet" as this lost, mysterious thing like lost media.

i know a few "lolcows", occasionally check in on ones who still post weird stuff. people are bad at leaving them alone.

i mean click around DeviantArt for 5 mins and you'll find random furries who could be "DeviantArt's most DISTURBED Sonic fan?!?!" if you want to read out posts over spooky music.

Yet they don't truly know shit about it and they have a wrong image about what made old internet great.

Blogs kinda suck because they're narcissistic and one-sided in nature.

If you act like a retard, then expect to be treated as such. Still all these retards who spend way too much time to stalk and dox lolcows (or people they wrongly treat as lolcows) like Encyclopedia Dramatica and KiwiFarms faggots are as bad as the lolcows they're obsessed with. Like ok, I get it, Chris-chan is a weird, creepy lolcow. But making a whole forum about him? Jesus Christ, get a hobby!

Most Sonic furfags are already creepy, especially since most of them are zoophiles, pedos, rapists, trannies creeps etc.

i mean i do find this stuff entertaining, but genuinely just observe and leave them to it. they'll do funny shit on their own, passively: poking the nest defeats the point. yeah it's "for the lulz" but you're ruining the lulz that were already there.

>>82214024
true but i don't know what to what degree you can apply this "backwards" to their real life. say there's sone forum/fandom drama, unless it's specifically already about RL stuff, can you really psychoanalyze them as people? conclude what they must "actually get up to", in-person?
it's a flame war on a message board. even if they masturbate to cartoon hedgehogs, it's a nothingburger.

Most of the old Internet is lost media though. A lot of stuff pre-2010 is either deleted entirely or buried under a few billion Google search results.

true. archive.org and Archive Team are doing god's work. Tripod went down a few weeks ago, nobody cared, but that's a LOT of web 1.0 pages (including art and shit).

Flickr recently disabled downloading full-res images unless the uploader has a pro account and this really irritates the hoarder in me. but some day Flickr itself will be gone, just like ImageShack, Photobucket, etc.

BEFORE 2007 THEY WERE ONLY REFERRED TO AS WEB LOGS AND "WEBLOG" - "BLOG" DID NOT CATCH ON FOR YEARS.
