I'm not even gonna try to argue about his existence, because I know in the end people believe because they need to believe. Whether God factually exists or not is irrelevant to religious people as well, or else they'd be trying to push science to detect him.
As long as they get to think he exists, he "exists", and I find that unnecessary for love.

If it were self evident, I would be incapable of not believing. That said, I simply am not going to accept any argument without evidence, so that conversation was doomed from the start.
In the end the only thing that matters is whether humans believe God exists, for population control or for emotional self-regulation. I'd rather be my own father and sit on the throne than paint an imaginary father and place him on it.

Right. That's the one argument people always fall back to. They fail to take into account the part of will, as a god without a will is just energy (you know, Sun cults have more legitimacy if we take this road! At least we can prove the Sun exists), and a god with a will has to be proven to have it. And no, pointing at everything and saying "therefore God" does not sufficiently prove that there is an infinitely powerful entity with a will who decided to create entities with free will in order to be loved by them.
The only thing it proves is that something happened and had consequences. This is as absurd as saying 1 is a conscious entity because it's the first number.

It's an enigma until we find the answer. Simple as that.
This need for an explanation regardless of plausibility only further supports my suspicions that people pray to God because they have a hole in their soul and fill it with the idea of God, not because God exists.
