Instead of how to escape, how do you achieve this? People call it "maladaptive" daydreaming, but for me personally this sounds comfy. I would love to disassociate from the world into a cozy dream. I already have depersonalization where I feel detached from reality, but I don't get daydreams like you do sadly.

i wanna do things tho, i wanna be a real person, i wanna stop being stuck between 2 worlds

if you can visualize things in your head then you have all the tools you need to achieve it. if you really wanna do it, turn on some music of your choice and just imagine scenarios in your head to match the mood. scifi dystopian melancholic music? imagine walking around bladerunner talking to street vendors n stuff. ambient fantasy music? imagine being in a tavern, drinking ale and reading quest descriptions or whatever. you get the idea. thats how it is for me anyways, gotta be elaborate, have to build worlds in my head to live on all the time

I started maladaptive daydreaming due to severe depression and OCD. Now that I am cured from depression and almost done with OCD, I still have the habit of daydreaming. Sometimes I just stop my daydreaming, and just freak out. How in the world am I talking to myself as if someone is actually there? I am scared of developing schizophrenia, and i am wasting so much time. I hate it here

ever tried to consistently stop doing it for several weeks? its honestly exhausting trying to stay present and aware, just 0 zero energy while doing it

I am currently trying to stop, but every time I end up watching a video with a nice beat, I just turn on the songs I daydream to automatically and I daydream for hours. I want to stop so badly I am considering to stop listening to music. It's so triggering for me. Also I am hobbymaxxing so that I stop this madness. I am going out more and shit too.

What exactly is it that you want to do

I wish I had the imagination to detach from reality.

i struggle with this as well but I REALLY dont want to fix it. My job is monotonous and doesn't require any thought really, so I spend my eight hours working and daydreaming simultaneously. I get home and just rot for maybe an hour or two on social media, and then just lay down and day dream the rest of the day. Its been like this for years, on and off. I know its no way to live but It is so comforting

You have to have good level of inherent creativity for it, unfortunately (for you) it's a genetic trait

engage with people and things
you need to spend less time in your own head

humans are meant to receive feedback from other humans
we evolved to be social
even though modern society has solved a lot of the problems that isolation causes (getting attacked by predators, starving)

the really shitty thing is the days when I don't even have any good daydreams and all I have left is slop media, feels way bleaker. maybe it's a wakeup call though and I can use the self-awareness to find a new direction and find productive stuff to do or spend time in group venues.
