i have no room for new manga or books and yet i wanna buy more. too much stuff i want, too many good deals on ebay

im trying not to put myself in $300 more afterpay debt. i already owe $800

one day im gonna build a house thats actually one giant room with no doors and only 1 window so i can recieve book and clothing deliveries and im gonna have a massive library, bookshelves all along the walls spanning from floor to ceiling, and even more bookshelves to create little corridors in my giant room house, and ill spend every day reading instead of using r9k

you ever try to get a kindle? you can have that massive library of yours right there at the palm of your hand
the clothing, well... learn sewing, i guess

i hate reading online, staring at the phone gives me severe migraines.
i read all of chainsaw man in one day a week ago and the migraine was so bad i couldnt get up.

weve actually interacted in another thread but i didnt make myself known lmao.
its weird seeing some of the stuff you say in some other threads.
ive actually not been doing all that good, im just trying to get off r9k and decrease screen time. logged 80 hours (75 on r9k alone) 2 weeks ago and decided to try quit. but i cant bring myself to. and the boards been getting so much worse and way more miserable. its affecting my mental health BAD. i plan on getting my isp to block it at the end of the month

>>82846527
im not handy enough, ill just rearrange stuff and hope for the best

>staring at the phone gives me severe migraines.
kindle screens are optimized for reading, they look just like book pages in my experience
my eyesight doesn't get nearly as tired from reading the light novels i have there
>i read all of chainsaw man in one day a week ago
an anon after my own heart, lol
i tend to marathon some mangas like that when i have the chance too, but sometimes i take it slow to enjoy my time
the other day i caught up with dandadan, now following it

>migraine
yikes, it was that bad?
you need reading glasses then

>its weird seeing some of the stuff you say in some other threads.
how so?
i mean i'm in kind of a manic episode right now, my mood is at a high state so i'm a lot less of a downer than usual
i might say some crazy shit with it though

>but i cant bring myself to.
yeah i get that feel, but for me it's mostly because it's my main source of interaction with people
and i hate it because yeah, the board fucking sucks as of late but i don't want to leave the kind souls that wander this hellhole

>getting my isp to block it at the end of the month
can they even do that? if anything i imagine they're going to set up some config in your router that you'll be able to easily bypass, anything configured at local datacenters would be a bit of a hassle to configure
>t. knows a bit about IT infrastructure

i mean it could be worth a shot, but if it did give me migraines id be pretty upset. besides that i love physical media and the smell of books.
its nice to marathon manga. especially when you have nothing better to do. i also binged berserk and i almost feel like i read it too quickly. feel like most of the people who worship it were the ones stuck reading it chapter by chapter a decade or 3 ago.
god i have so many thoughts i wanna discuss about berserk and csm

>it was that bad?
my migraines are usually horrible, the standard is feeling like im having a brain aneurysm and my teeth are all falling out at the same time. but that one was genuinely top 10 worst migraines ive had.
i have reading glasses with blue light protection, and i still get them

yeah youve seemed to be doing pretty good, manic episode isnt good per-se but its better than being down

its my main source too. but isolation is better than this board at times. there's good people here but its not worth staying on a sinking ship

apparently they can? idk its worth a shot. if not maybe ill get wifi and then never use a mobile phone again

That's a nice idea. I've always wanted a big bunker complex with a lab and workshop. I'd make my own food in some hydroponics system and have my own independent power source.

that sounds nice, making your own food and having your own power source. but a bunker doesnt get much sunlight and itd be incredibly dark and a bit scary

you know anyone who owns a kindle? you can ask to see what text looks like there
i was really surprised when i got mine, i thought it was just some bullshit they were advertising but no, shit really looks like paper
>i love physical media and the smell of books.
well i'm sure you can get some book scented perfume for that, but physical media, while nice, takes up space
space you don't currently have, it seems

>berserk
now that's one i haven't read, i considered it but eh... i dunno, something discourages me
right now i'm only following dandadan and chainsaw man, tried to read ghost in the shell 2 but after the fuckery in 1 and 1.5, my brain is still a mess, lol
story's too complicated for my room temperature iq

>god i have so many thoughts i wanna discuss about berserk and csm
well i can discuss one of these two
and i do not fucking like this arc of chainsaw man, lol
like, where the fuck did denji's character development go? and where the fuck is power already? the current shit just feels like the second part of the public safety arc all over again

>feeling like im having a brain aneurysm and my teeth are all falling out at the same time.
jesus fucking christ, take care of yourself then
better not read shit on screens so much or from up close anytime soon
>reading glasses with blue light protection, and i still get them
well then, i'm out of guesses
but try your best to avoid it, i suppose
i can tolerate phone reading to an extent but i gotta pause often to not be blinded

>manic episode isnt good per-se
i dunno man i'd rather feel this way than fucking depressed like i was a few days ago
like yeah some shit still fucking sucks but i'm like, it is what it is, moving on

>isolation is better than this board at times.
oh hell no it isn't, there are very rare cases when it is, and as awful as this board is, i really have to disagree with you there
but do explain, what makes you think that?

For me, that's pretty alright. I'm not much of a fan of the sun. I've had all sorts of ideas on the food production too, although in place of sunlight you can get nice and warm lights.
>incredibly dark and a bit scary
That's the best part! I'm honestly more uncomfortable having others able to see me than being in a bunker all alone.
>i get migraines so reading on my phone hurts. i also prefer physical media
Do you not have a PC? I mean I have a phone but I just read stuff on my computer(and I never use my phone for anything, honestly). Also migraines aren't good, they cause health issues if they're chronic. Do you get migraines from other sources than just staring at your phone?

idk anyone who still reads, or has money for a kindle lmao. id have to get one myself to try it.
you are right about that...

i was discouraged cause people talk it up so much. its good tho, worth the read. lots of shit irks me tho and the millenium falcon arc SUCKS MASSIVE PENIS like holy fuck it was so boring i almost dropped it.
need to read ghost in the shell myself, i love stuff like that

i dont like a lotta things about chainsaw man cause it feels like fujimoto just hates his own characters. theyre always poorly drawn compared to the beautiful detailed backgrounds and demons he can make, and he kills them off so easily like they dont matter. it feels so disrespectful to his own work. also most of the new characters from this arc feel so flat and boring. the only memorable one is mitaka and mifune but only because of the std demon meme. and we barely got to spend time with nayuta before she was killed off, so i can't even feel emotional over her death at all because there was no fucking substance there

id try my best if i had other stuff to do. just gotta wait for my books

feels like being a woman on r9k is worse than ever before with this dumbass gender wars shit so i consider isolation better. idk, the less i spend on here the better i feel mentally. every time im on here i have suicidal or even tranny thoughts cloud over me, but when im off gaming or reading, i feel so content (until i get a migraine)

yeah i'm aware, just not sure why berserk doesn't entice me so

>i love stuff like that
complicated stuff? well, only two other works come to mind, evangelion and haruhi (although haruhi isn't so complicated, it's more on the mysterious side)
but on the same line of ghost in the shell being a futuristic cyberpunk manga, i can recommend battle angel alita
that one enticed me far better, lol

>fujimoto hates his own characters.
maybe? i mean i get what you're saying, but on the drawing part, maybe he just isn't good with human figures as he is with other things
>it feels so disrespectful to his own work.
unsurprising really, i guess he's trying to convey a story about chasing something and then losing it just as you grabbed hold of it
it's pretty depressing for denji when you think about it

>the only memorable one is mitaka and mifune
kek, yeah true
nayuta getting offed was pretty fucked to me, like here i finally thought denji would have someone to cherish for a while longer

Aside from the usual aquaponics it all gets a bit crazy sounding. One of the less crazy ideas was going to be growing mushrooms. I'd love to see if you couldn't just make a nice set up where you can inject liquid food stuffs in and have the fungus grow and occasionally produce mushrooms. The crazy stuff involves using electricity more directly to make food. Did you know that many plants can actually consume acetate(the acid in vinegar) for energy? You can make acetate with CO2, water and some electricity too. A lot of microbes can actually get their energy from acetate too. I'll spare you the horrifying ideas I've had though.
>i do not have a pc (no space for it).

yeah, complicated stuff. haruhi isnt complicated, at least i dont remember it being complicated. i still gotta watch eva, but like you with berserk, i cant do it. lain fits the bill of complicated, tho maybe that was cause i watched it when i was 12. ill consider reading that too, its been on my list for years too lmao

Yeah, the crazier stuff is with electric bacteria and it gets more Frankenstein-like. In their case they can directly grow and multiply on electrodes. They can even take up CO2 to use the carbon elsewhere in their biology.
>pretty interesting you can make acetate with co2 water and electricity too, how does that even work?
B^) with a lot of pain, that's how. All of the papers I've seen on doing it involve a lot of catalysts and steps. The easier step would be to use electric bacteria instead, but they would also make all kinds of other junk. One idea I had involved genetically engineering them to produce sugars and to resist the osmotic pressure(water activity more professionally) of what is essentially honey. They'd actively seek to excrete that honey to protect themselves and the honey would both get CO2 dissolved in it and draw water from the air, which would feed the whole cycle some more. You could take further steps to have them produce additives to the honey to either flavor it a certain way or to make it even more like the genuine stuff, like adding hydrogen peroxide into it all. The only issue a biologist might have with this is that the water activity of honey is supposedly under the threshold that microbial activity can occur, but I disagree with any notion that it's the actual limit for microbes.
>i do need glasses, full time. tho tbdesu i dont wear them all the time, theyre uncomfortable on my face, so thats... likely my own fault.
I see. Are there any kinds of accessories or modifications you could get to make them more comfortable? I know contact lens are a pain, so I doubt that'd be any kind of improvement.

Also here's a cool video of some electric bacteria under a microscope. They use their little wires to feed/breath. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3j_gJ2teK5E

>has your genetic engineering idea actually been tried by anyone
Nope B^).
>do you know if itd work?
It should, in theory. The only hurdle is the water activity bit, but I'm convinced that the reason there aren't any known microbes that can handle water activities as low as you see in honey is because there aren't that many environments on Earth that have water activities that low and the ones that do aren't stable. If you had bacteria living and breeding in honey, for example, then they'd start turning all of the sugar into water and CO2 and the water activity would quickly shift. Then they'd also get competition.
>sounds like you know your shit, do you have a biology degree, or is this self taught?
I pretty much quit life in 8th grade and dropped out. Self-taught. I'm just a sperg with too much time.
>not sure, id have to look into it. ive tried having them adjusted, but they never feel right
I sadly have no advice or ideas on any of that, since I don't have glasses. Making your own frames seems like a bit of a hurdle.
>they look like spiderwebs, and the way everything moves around is really interesting
I'm pretty sure those are specifically cable bacteria, although the video doesn't say what specific species they are. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cable_bacteria
They not only form those webs but they also bridge the gap from the more anaerobic, stinky and sulfidic lower sediments to the upper sediments with oxygen.

Have you ever gotten really into researching anything before? Or just learning about something?

also, keyword
>there isnt any known
they, very likely, still exist. your idea probably would work. also, if you could get bacteria to breed in honey, if the sugar turned to water, would all the previous bacteria die out because of the change of conditions, or does it adapt?
idk much about this stuff so i have a lotta questions.
whyd you drop out? 8th grade is incredibly early to do so as well.
making my own frames is probably too much of a hassle to even bother with lmao.
kinda odd to upload a seemingly educational video to not state the type of bacteria, but youre most likely right

i used to be really into geology as a kid, literally could tell you anything about it. i got into some other stuff a bit too. unfortunately my brain has decided not to retain the information in my adult years and ive lost drive to actually research or study things
Anonymous No.82848090 [Report] >>82848227
>>82847972
It's a good keyword B^). You're right that they should die out, but there is the possibility for a theoretical species to have the ability to adapt to the change in water activity. Slime molds actually do that with salt. If you force them to feed and move on saltier substrate then they'll take up the salt into themselves to deal with it and will purge it when they get into less salty substrates. At least from what I remember.
>idk much about this stuff so i have a lotta questions.
That's more than fine since I love talking about it all B^).
>whyd you drop out?
Oh. School was pretty much always awful for me -- even from the very start. I got diagnosed with Asperger's in preschool as a direct consequence of my teacher screaming and yelling at just me, none of the other kids. Never fit in, was always made fun of and I just couldn't take it.
>making my own frames is probably too much of a hassle to even bother with lmao.
Yeah, it'd only seem to be worth it if you liked sculpting things.
>kinda odd to upload a seemingly educational video to not state the type of bacteria, but youre most likely right
That video did come out a little bit after they were discovered, I guess that must be why.

Geology is pretty neat stuff. Did you ever get into mining or panning content? I like to watch a good bit of all of that, plus I get bits of geology info due to my delving into paleontology topics. Also, that kind of loss of drive is something that you can get back. I do have a channel you might like on geology though, with a nice video on some odd formations in the Gulf of America B^). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y2Qqslr5ytY
Anonymous No.82848227 [Report] >>82848276

guess youll just have to try it and see if they adapt. its pretty insane to think molds/bacteria can be so lively that they can even learn to adapt like that. being able to feed and purge like that, being able to know what theyre doing to some extent, it kinda makes me feel bad for them lmao

ah yeah, dont blame you for dropping out, its rough out there. preschool is insanely early to be diagnosed. also, aspergers, rarely meet anyone with an actual aspergers diagnosis, since dsm5 merged aspergers with autism and most people started calling it autism despite aspergers having some of its own distinct characteristics. (speaking of ig i do still research and have knowledge of stuff, because i like studying neurodevelopmental disorders, mental illnesses/conditions and the like a bit)

i dont think i watched much, but i did read a bit about mining and panning because its a big part of my countrys history (australia) and i also lived in an area popular for that stuff. i actually found opal a few times in the wild. ill probably get it back eventually, just gotta keep pushing. also, ill check it out, i got it bookmarked so i can watch it
Anonymous No.82848276 [Report] >>82848364

Or force them to adapt >B^). Don't worry though, plants also scream. The screams are probably to get wasps and other predators to come and eat whatever is hurting them or to lure them into the area when they're vulnerable. https://www.sciencealert.com/plants-really-do-scream-weve-simply-never-heard-them-until-now
They're just little ultrasonic clicks that some plants, like tomatoes, were found to make from what I can remember off of the top of my head.

I'm also surprised my mom didn't try to get me diagnosed for something earlier(although she did think I was an "Indigo child", so maybe her weird spiritual stuff is why.) It's funny also because the whole "vaccines cause autism" stuff happened just a bit before I was born so my mom skipped out on me getting any vaccines. I'd love to hear about some odd neurodevelopmental disorders though if you'd be up for sharing.
>Australia
You guys have so much cool stuff over there too. Tasmania even has giant crayfish. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tasmanian_giant_freshwater_crayfish

Those opals are also really neat, but so is that one mining town you guys have where most of the people live underground in tunnels. I hope you'll enjoy the video, Myron is a nice and relaxing watch.

ive actually seen a video about plants screaming, it was horrifying to me. i know theyre living creatures so they probably wouldve made some sound, but knowing for a fact they do, idk it makes me feel bad for them too

oh god, youre vaccinated now tho, right? it is a bit funny in an awful way, imagine skipping your childs vaccines just for them to be autistic anyways. my mum also believes that stuff, but luckily i still got vaccinated (tho i missed my adult and teenage vaccinations cause im deathly afraid of needles).
tbdesu i havent looked into many specific ndds other than autism/aspergers and related conditions, like auditory processing disorder for example. most of the stuff i research is cluster a, b, c disorders and schizophrenia, ocd, bipolar, etc. i probably should do more research into other ndds because theyre pretty interesting. i wanna know more about tourettes and tic disorders

we have really cool wildlife, i love our birds and fish. i recently learnt other countries have their own types of magpies too, the american one is really gorgeous

other than the opals, ive only found coins or animal bones. nothing too cool or weird unfortunately

Wait until you find out that fungi can act like neurons. Despite slime molds having 'mold' in their name, they're not actually fungi but instead giant amoebas. Behold! The mold shall tug on your heartstrings! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qREuXKvWMqA

In all seriousness though, pain is a really universal thing but it helps to abstract it. We have the habit of empathizing and sympathizing with a lot of these organisms, but their means of feeling pain or processing information are very robotic. Direct, not-so-complex. Pain is itself a very basal necessity for life, as it's just the means of detecting damage and the responses to pain are likewise necessary for survival. Plus if you worry about all of the plants and fungi then you'll just be sad all of the time.

I'm kind of vaccinated now. I got whooping cough as a kid, that wasn't fun, but otherwise I pulled through. I do have my tetanus vaccine up-to-date, but I don't really go out in public if I can help it. Also you don't have to worry too much about needing a vaccine if you never meet anyone in person B^). You haven't gotten sick from anything vaccinatable as a teen/adult though, have you?

I'd be up for hearing about cluster C disorders, I've suspected that I'd qualify for a diagnosis of AvPD for some time now actually. For Tourettes, isn't there a component of it that stems from, well, the brainstem? I swear I remember something like that. I also know that I've heard about people who faked having Tourettes and forcing themselves to do tics actually ended up having those tics remain as more permanent facets of their lives, which is funny and I remember a South Park episode joking about that.

You guys have tons of cool wild life, you and New Zealand. Speaking of your fish though, have you heard of the salamanderfish that you guys have? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lepidogalaxias

can act like neurons? how so?
anything living tugs on my heartstrings a bit, i feel bad for bugs so i always try to save them, take care of them, or be mindful of them.
even tho the pain of plants is robotic, the fact they scream still makes me upset. i cant help it

its good you got some, at least. do you live alone? thatd probably help, so that others cant drag illnesses home for you, but if theyre fully vaccinated its less of a risk, ig. i havent been sick from anything vaccinatable, except covid and influenza, but those vaccines are basically useless

avpd is actually the cluster c disorder i know most about, because i suspected i had it too, but i feel like many of the symptoms overlap too much with other disorders (autism, anxiety, normal human responses to being treated like shit by people, for example) itd make it hard to diagnose someone accurately with it. im also weary of it being classed as a personality disorder in the first place, idk.
pretty sure that's the case, i need to look into it. also, yeah, i heard something about that too, and its pretty funny

i have not, but it looks so cool, i can imagine people freaking out thinking its an eel at first if they saw one in the wild. i love the little spider leg looking things they have

Fungi actually send electrical impulses down their mycelium and seem to communicate. Those signals are waaay slower than what our neurons do though. That video I showed actually had some fungus hooked up to electrodes and when they flashed it briefly with a UV light(something most fungi hate, but interestingly some fungi may actually use it as a source of energy) it started freaking out with a bunch of impulses which moved its little robot along.

It's always good to be mindful of nature, I try to do the same as long as it's not a roach or a fly. At least it can tug on your heartstrings in a good way to know that plants also seem to enjoy music and nice, ambient noises :). Also if you treat certain plants too nicely they stop doing things like making their fruit spicy, in the case of peppers.

I live with and help take care of my mom. I'd love to live alone, but sadly I can't afford that. My immune system is pretty strong though, so I'm not too worried about getting sick. Don't say the vaccines are useless though, they make pharmaceutical giants tons of money B^^^^). Any kind of leaky vaccine is actually a major health hazard though as they can lead to what happened with Marek's disease. To quote from the wiki( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marek%27s_disease )
>"The evolution of Marek's disease due to vaccination has had a profound effect on the poultry industry. Highly virulent strains have been selected to the point that any chicken that is unvaccinated will die if infected."
And now, since it's spooky month:
>"Other leaky vaccines are commonly used in agriculture. One vaccine in particular is the vaccine for avian influenza. Leaky vaccine use for avian influenza can select for virulent strains."

Also, I see. Since you're interested in autism and mentioned the overlap of it and AvPD's symptoms, are you implying you're also autistic or a fellow sperg?

Another weird case I've heard about was a woman developing DID from roleplaying. I'm really skeptical on that one though, but I can understand how it might happen if something were to also mess with their brain. I just can't believe that simply roleplaying would be enough for it though, even if done at a very obsessive level -- at least not for everyone.

Also if you liked the salamanderfish's spidery bits then you'd probably love seamoths. Pic related is a baby from Hawaii. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pegasidae

I'm gonna go shower and get ready for bed before the sun comes up though. It was fun talking with you, OP.

kinda terrible to torture the fungi like that. didnt know they hate or can use uv light tho, thats really interesting

flies, roaches and mosquitos are annoying pests, so i cant fault you there, but i only kill mosquitoes. thats good to know, cause if i ever get into gardening again im gonna treat the plants amazingly and play music for them!! didnt know that they could do that, thats so cool. feels like everything is so much more lively than i was aware of lmao

ah ok, its good you take care of her tho, youre a good person for that.
pfft, like those companies need more money. and that, that is a terrifying thing to think about. hopefully it wont happen and will stick to birds

mhm, im diagnosed autistic as of like 3 years ago. aspergers doesnt exist in the dsm5 now so cant be diagnosed but i dont think id qualify for aspergers specifically anyway. i try pick up every bit of info i can on it, cause i wanna fully understand why i am the way that i am

thats probably bullshit, did is insanely rare, a few decades ago there was only a handful of cases, but after one of those people wrote a book, heaps of people started claiming it, and then tiktok made heaps of people fake it too. its like tourettes except they cant develop it by faking

ive seen these before, theyre really cute.

goodnight anon, i hope you sleep well. i really enjoyed talking to you, it was fun :D

I'm not sure now desu, a few were going for 300-400 last time I checked. Ridiculous pricing considering I paid less than 20 dollars for them Pre-Covid. I'm keeping them though since I love physical books so much.
