The intersection of social media, capitalism, and a thin veneer of "pop feminism" (not the same as actual feminism). Women become extremely competitive because they embrace a lot of positivity... for themselves. But don't really extend that to men as well and instead leave their own biases and preferences for bigoted conservative gender roles and beauty standards unchallenged, because "pop feminism" has gone really neoliberal and eschews having firm underlying ideology in favor of "anyone who tells a woman she's doing something wrong is bad". The radfems call it "choice feminism" because it's opposed to thinking critically about why choices are made. Anyway, that happens and then there's the broader capitalist society where people feel the need to be seeking only the best of the best in life in general, and need to be publicly showing themselves on social media and such to have the best of the best, and if they settle for someone who is ok but not "ideal" then they are basically betraying themselves and showing themselves to be a lower status and failing to "keep up with the Joneses", so to speak
(It's pretty similar to the mindset that chads have towards women, most men aren't like that anymore but the men most women want these days tend to be very competitive and focused on getting just the best for long term relationships, though due to societal gender role differences, they will still fuck and lead on women they deem "lesser than" while women just don't want anything at all to do with us left wing nice guy incels that they deem below them)
