I didn't get to Skyrim until like 2019, and to this date I still haven't finished the main quest for one reason or another. Either some game-breaking bug corrupts my save, I go so long without playing it I just start over, or I find some mod that I absolutely need that requires a new save file, etc. Todd's magnum opus truly is the gift that keeps on giving.

There's several mods that free you from being railroaded into the being the titular dragonborn (imagine that Todd, getting to ROLE PLAY in your rpg) but yeah, it's kind of dopey. Now that said, it's not like Morrowind or Oblivion was much better in that regard. You were always the chosen one, as foretold in the Elder Scrolls, in 3 and 4 as well.

Yeah I keep going back and adding a QoL mod or an armor retexture mod or this mod or that mod, but I also don't want to start a game with a mod that radically alters the main quest until after I've beaten the game either. Although at my current pace I think ES6 will come out in late 2055 before I actually finish Skyrim.
