It's something like this. I just think female biology and attraction is fucked up and there needs to be some serious difference / contrast between the 2 of you for things to work out. I also think they are attracted to men with a self-indulgent, compulsive-appetite sociopathic streak - nice, sweet givers are just not attractive because you can depend on them to give without expecting anything in return. Doesn't mean you should "reveal the game" to them but it's just this issue of like you genuinely can't treat women like a queen, they need to be run down, ignored somehow, you need to be the guy who's a little scary - not even gangster, just mogging them in some way...
Guys like the guy in the OP just have this issue about like women and men being soulmates like some Ghibli romance but women are somewhat materialistic (they are not as good for providing with themselves) and somewhat concerned over their safety (they need to know that you're willing to contest invaders). In a safe and high-functioning society this effect is lessened but we don't live in such a society anymore.
