My room was so messy I stopped living in it and just moved into my dead brother's room who was a neat freak.
Now I'm fucking his room up, too.

That's fucked up though. I always kept my room nice growing up while my parents were hoarders. When I moved out, I told my parents SPECIFICALLY not to fuck it up. Within a month, it was full of boxes and shit. I was gone for 5 years, got married, got divorced, and moved back in when I went bankrupt from lawyers fees and not being able to afford living alone.
Nicely told them to clean it out before I got there. "No problem, anon." Move back in last month, boxes up to the ceiling, on the bed, etc. Spent a few days having to move the shit off the bed to sleep, then putting them back on to get out of the room. Fucking sucked. Now I'm 90% neat, just 2 bins, 2 boxes, half a closet full, and a pile of filled shopping bags. I'm getting there.
Are you just depressed or something? Attachment disorder? I assure you you'll feel much better when you can walk around without tripping over shit

My room was always in a constant state of messiness from childhood til NEET adulthood. I got so sick of it after doing drugs that I cleaned it feverishly. It's not spotless but its way better and less stress inducing.
I had an episode where I became extremely paranoid that external forces were coming to attack me, and so for protection I drew swastikas and liebesrunes and blasphemes on my walls. I got out of it and realized that was probably what was making me lose my mind.

It's messy in that it's cramped with lots of papers and work related things, and I never dust, but there's no food or waste or anything in it.

I'm not really a hoarder it's just a lot of clutter and laundry every where. there's also stacks of books that I've already read that I need to move into storage since I don't have enough shelf space. I never trip over anything.

Also I never dust or vacuum so shit just gets crusty over time.

my room is pretty clean only because i spend more of my waking hours in my car than i do in my room

My room will get messy and i will get very sad, but there's nothing anyone can do about that

It's messy but mostly just disorganized, no actual waste shit. I clean my plates and take out trash.
I also don't dust because nothing stays on one place enough to collect dust anyways
