a couple months ago i was talking to my mom about how florida banned lab grown meat. she said that was a good thing. when i asked why she responded with "because lab grown meat is bad".
it doesn't even exist yet. it's not commercially available. you can't buy it.
she goes "good. and we can't let that exist, it's very dangerous"
"how?"
she shushes me and asks chatgpt to supply ten reasons why lab grown meat is dangerous. it just makes a bunch of shit up.
i ask my chatgpt to disprove all that stuff. it agrees with me that her chatgpt just made everything up and almost all of it was unfounded. she asks her chatgpt to list ten more reasons lab grown meat is bad for humans. also tosses in impossible meat as well.
i point out that impossible meat is literally just vegetables. she says vegetables don't bleed. i say that's not blood, it's heme & can by synthesized from plants. she says she doesn't care and just doesn't trust it.
i say if you don't trust it, don't buy it. she says no, it should be banned. i ask why. she says she doesn't trust it. i say ok, but why does it need to be banned for everyone because you don't like it? she says that's reason enough. i say that's ridiculous, we can't ban stuff without good reason. she says it would be immoral to allow people to consume this clearly dangerous mystery material in order to justify doing something about it first. i say it's not a mystery, it's vegetables. we know what's in it. the ingredients list is on the box.
