My take on why its the virus. Writing wise the vase makes the most sense. However both terrorist and the cop seemed to have a good eye for pottery. Perhaps pottery is a big part of their culture, who knows. If something was wrong though they would have caught on to something. Also, the terrorist never directly touched any pottery. Even his comment about the vase attracting unsavory types was only pointing to his own desire to destroy things that are beautiful. The terrorist starts itching before direct contact with Tamako, so it can't be her. The camera flash is possible but unlikely since the terrorist knew what it was but had no other reaction. It could be the slugs since they mentioned something about secreting. But by having everything in the episode contradict it mimics a closed room where the answer is something that was in the show before the episode was closed. Aka the virus. It also provides a nice way to cycle back to the original plot.
