So we know why originals are a hard sell - they require a team to get upfront funding on something that has no prior fanbase, the marketplace is largrly saturated, Production comittees have a great system where they outsource the risk of launching a new IP and its storyboards to mangaka that they can fund at lower stakes and find a marketplace naturally as its produced - but is there a way to make originals succeed?
Marketing, hype, the thrill of not knowing whats coming next week by week till you've got people naturally buzzing about the series online causing a cascading marketing effect - is that just not enough to outweigh safety? Is there anything that can outweigh that safety?
