Think about it this way, majority of guys like women in makeup. They may not be able to tell the technique and experimentation that gets honed in over time, but for example, unless you win with the looks lottery, majority can easily tell when the skin looks mismatched due to natural skin discoloration. It also brings an atmosphere that tells you a person doesn't take care of themselves, even if untrue. And if a person looks like they don't take care of themselves, they're discarded as dating candidate for the majority of the populace. However, the other extreme opposite, which is too much makeup, makes it feel that its application is obsessive, and only attracts the same sex who partake in such hobbies.
So to flip the sexes, no muscles at all feels like the person doesn't take care of themselves, while too much muscle definition feels like they're obsessed with dieting and hitting the gym all the time. The solution to both is that it's okay to partake in makeup/working out, but make it look as natural as possible rather than in your face.
