I refuse to believe that the really close skinship between Riko and Reg isn't forshadowing of a slowly blooming romance between them. They share a very close bond that's way closer than your average boy and girl relationship, they both express an innocent sexual fascination each other at least once, and even after Riko noticed Reg's erection in the bath and realized that he's a real boy, she still felt comfortable enough around him to give him a close hug from behind, even though they were both completely naked together.
Riko x Reg is absolutely canon. I get the appeal of the Faputa ship, but she just comes off as a romantic rival to me. Ever since Reg his memories, he's always been way more closely bonded to Riko than to Faputa.
