One of the heaviest moments in the show was when Hank is talking about his old job of marking trees to be cut down in a forest preserve. He enters the scene completely dejected, offering Walt some alcohol, barely even paying attention to him and whatever the fuck he's on about. He starts rambling on about how he would have to hike through the forest, grid by grid, and mark trees to clear for trails and such. Walter remarks that it must have been nice to be out in the woods all day, to which Hank replies that it wasn't all that great with the sunburns and mosquito. Still, though it was just a job he did to make some quick money, he should have enjoyed it more.
>I've been thinking about that job alot lately. tagging trees is a hell of a lot better than chasing monsters
This comes after a scene where Walter orchastrates the killing of a dozen people across several prisons all to happen within the same minute, in order to completely bury any connection to the former drug empire he blew up.
Fucking heavy shit man. The acting really sells it. You can see just how much the event weighs on Hank and how far gone Walt is to not have a care in the world about what he'd done. Not to say that those dozen were innocent, they were part of the drug trade, too, but to do what Walt did with no hesitation or conscience. It's absolutely cold-blooded. As the show goes on you find that Hank, despite his competence in his profession, was not built for a world as dark as the one Walt inhabits.
