I think you guys are ignoring one huge variable: side-effects. They obviously had *some* side-effects on their side in order to predict where a portal would appear (maybe something similar to Chika’s), so who’s to say they didn’t also have some insane side-effect like Jin’s on their side? Something like an insanely powerful psychometry guy (when you touch an object and can extrasensorially gleam accurate information from it), or some sort of prophecy power or whatever (“we can’t go to border with this, if we do, the world will end” “how do you know?” “My sixth sense is telling me, the same one that warned me about [other backstory thing, maybe reason why they’re not in border to begin with]—we have to sneak into the other world on our own”). My point is that, yeah, I don’t think they had neighbors on their side, and yeah their official access was for sure limited, but maybe they were working with something better than any of those.
