Toriyama had been bored of Goku and wanted to move on, for decades. Japan Salaryman can't have the system bucked so they slapped Toriyama every time he tried. Dragon Ball hasn't been Dragon Ball since the middle of Z. Abridged is probably the best last thing to happen to the franchise.
