Some amount of slutting it up is fine, but you need more possible outcomes otherwise it gets stale.
I am reminded of the manga Franken Fran, where Fran and her experimental surgeries have horrible, life ruining consequences for her patients like 4 out of 5 times. But that 5th time is IMPORTANT. Sometimes, she helps someone with a crazy surgery and it all more or less works out in the end. This creates the possibility of a good ending, even if its rare, which gives the reader a reasonable chance to HOPE that a given character will find a way to thread the needle instead of being doomed to a bad end by default.
If it was bad ends 5/5 times, there would never be any reason for the reader to expect otherwise, which means consequentially they have less reason to get invested in a character's fate because they already know in advance that the bad end is inevitable. Whereas even a small amount of hope for a better outcome introduces tension again.
