Its a mix of a few things
>1. The west doesn't mind metafiction that basically shits on the fans compared to Japan.
>2. The west seems to have many chronically online types that will rally around any form of lgbtq representation no matter how negative or vague that representation is.
>3. Ryukishi is a westaboo, Higurashi is a lot more Japanese oriented, same goes for stuff like Iwahime but Umineko is very let's just say western written, a western is more likely to indentify with the setting and style than a Japanese or really asian person in general.
>4.The way gaijin's hailed it as the second coming of christ for a long time and many never read just consuming the memes and community, this is sorta changing though as I see more and more people coming around to the same thoughts the Japanese had
>5.It has a cult following in the west because of those memes so for people who want to feel apart of the "in" crowd they may join in or read Umineko.
>6.It is often one of the first 5 visual novels a gaijin reads, combining a mix of recency bias and lack of experience leads to the fairly immature fanbase.
>7.Some people may still like the mystery up until episode 7 with Beatrice and battlers dynamic.
>8.Some people unironically love episode 8.
