Anyone who tries to claim otherwise is fucking coping, it's #1 on MAL for a reason and it's not because it, FMAB, AoT and Gintama are the best anime ever made. It's just iyashikei for those too retarded to be able to enjoy an actual iyashikei without cool fights to act as jingling keys.

The themes aren't explored in any sort of actual depth in favor of doing some shitty action Shounen shit with its retarded magic system. Fucking Edomae Elf released the same year before Frieren had the same fucking concept and tied it's themes into otaku coping mechanisms and did significantly more in exploring the ideas Frieren introduces in half the runtime. But of course people won't watch that because it's not immediately appealing to fucking normies like Frieren is, because its babby's first.
