Those get trashed on too when they're overt and shallow. You can spot them easily. But often the yuri plain jane has a litany of flaws the plot criticizes in ways you don't find in male self-inserts. Just because the setup feels like wish fulfillment doesn't mean the characters are all empty or lack chemistry, like one simply revolves around the other for the kindness of existing. Wish fulfillment isn't really a criticism on its own, it's essentially a genre. Yuri generally feels like the writer thought up a complementing couple and put them in a situation. Het generally feels like the writer thought up a boy or girl the writer is hardcore into, gave them all the plot, then put up a stand-in afterthought for them to crush on and inherit all responsibility. That degree of detachment innately leads to slightly more mature storytelling even when constructing a wish fulfillment setup.
