*Puts schizo frames on*
Well, the furthest point from love and admiration isn't hate, nor fear. But rather, is apathy and indifference. As such, the very makeup of horror can come with an element of obsession, of curiosity, of twisted love towards the other. Love, just like horror, can linger in the back of your mind and pop out when you least expect it, and with the component of horror, can become more intense. Apathy, the opposite of love, isn't a necessity in horror, and can in fact, can be showcased via a more extreme and unhealthy form of love.
So to say that love and admiration is the furthest state from understanding horror works under a false premise.
