You could look at the actual cels, but then, cels were often painted in a way to give a certain feel when watched on a CRT TV in standard definition. That and the sources TV stations used for content were tapes, and those tapes could deteriorate over time so there's no guarantee at any given time what you would be watching on TV would be representative of other viewings. That and the inherent differences between VHS, laserdisc, DVD, and bluray.
