Variety can still be had within a single LI weg. One girl doesn't have to mean one trajectory, but a single romance can be incorporated into the story far better.
My main issue with option one, besides the chopped up content, is games either meekly touch on your choices or choose to ignore them completely, which ruins the integrity of the story being told.
