I don't disagree with this, but I also suspect that it is adaptive to an extent, i.e. that behaviour like this signals competence, assertiveness, masculinity and so on. Sometimes it is mismatched, e.g. where the man is outside of his area of expertise and silly pride makes him make a fool of himself, but in other instances, the men who are more eager to put themselves forward in such a way are likely more successful in life, both professionally and romantically.
It is one of these talking points where online conflict is inevitable, since the timid, nerdy types of moids who dwell in these spaces are probably not the ones who are too eager to submit random women (or other men) to assert themselves in the hierarchy.
