George Washington was not a Republican, in fact he was against the very idea of political parties. He is also overrated in my opinion, people liked him because he was a general in the Revolutionary War and he was the very first president and that's about it. James Madison and Alexander Hamilton were the actual brains behind the U.S. Constitution and our system of government and deserve much more historical credit than they are given, George Washington's "big ideas" all turned out to be impractical, he wanted the House of Representative to have one representative for every 30,000 people which today would mean that the House of Representatives would consist of 11,400 people. He was also a naive isolationist who thought the U.S. should stay out of foreign affairs but failed to foresee how big we'd become and that other countries would want to have free and representative governments just like ours.
