You see, every single thing a human does is because they felt something. They continue to do things because they either want a whole lot more of one feeling or they do other things because they want a whole lot less of another feeling.

If a human feels that they're trapped in a feeling? Then they start adopting the ideation and mindset that the world is that feeling. They start to rationalize and codify why their view of the world must be true because they feel that feeling, and god dammit, it's the feeling they feel.
