As cosmology develops, the more that we see that no, what is going on locally is NOT the standard of the universe.
And the discrepancies about expansion can be easily explained: we are simply closer to the "edge" of the universe, than we are to the "center" of it. Expansion looks weird to us, because we are trying to measure distances through a rearview mirror.
But nobody really likes the idea that Earth is some know-nothing backwater planet in Space Uganda.
