Racism is dogma. The biggest issue is that you'll entirely ignore a chimp out from a white person, or you might even unconsciously justify it in your mind, but then when it's a black person, you immediately attribute it to their race, and don't give them the same benefit of the doubt.
Genuinely, begin just assuming everyone is innocent until proven otherwise. Stop hanging around echo chambers that specifically reinforce one belief in your mind. Studies indicate that our perception of stereotypes is actually entirely a perception, stereotypes aren't stereotypes because they're real, they're stereotypes because we pay attention to those things with those groups, but not others, due to our assumptions. I've seen plenty of hairy, non-italian whites, most people who are prejudiced will assume it's BECAUSE they're Italian that they are hairy, using the stereotype as the key identifier for a race is part of the reason why people don't understand this perception thing, they literally create self fulfilling prophecies anytime they attempt to "disprove" themselves.
